Best Dating Sites for Seniors
There are plenty of dating sites available. These include Match, eHarmony, okCupid. However, they are mostly geared to people my kids’ ages, not those of us over 50. This is why we are going to talk about the best dating sites for seniors.
Here is a list of sites we found that specifically cater to people in their 50s who want to date. If you are still not sure about online dating, we also have four more suggestions for other places to meet people, too.
The Best Dating Sites for Seniors Online
Our Time
Specifically designed for people over 50, the site states: “At OurTime.com, we honor the freedom, wisdom and appreciation for life that only comes with time. We also recognize that what people want in their 50s, 60s and beyond is often very different from what they wanted in their 30s and 40s, let alone their 20s. This online dating community focuses on the specific interests and desires of people like you."
Single and Over
Their website says that they will use their 25 years of experience in online dating to helping you find “quality singles in your area because all it takes is that one special person for you to be successful. We will…recommend to you great dating services that serve your specific area."
Senior Friend Finder
One of the things I particularly like about this site is that they say they take their members security and safety very seriously. There is even a VeriSign logo on the home page.
The site states, “In addition to our fraud detection algorithms, we have real people that review every senior dating profile at the time of registration, and every Senior FriendFinder member's photo is scrupulously reviewed by our Customer Service Department, so you can browse, email, and even flirt with confidence."
Mature Singles Click
This is another site that is concerned with the safety of its members, stating that they protect members’ anonymity until they are ready to be introduced. Depending on your senior dating goals, Mature Singles Click can either “introduce you to a bevy of beautiful older ladies and handsome older men, or help you find companionship, a date with other senior singles, or even a wonderful community of seniors where you can cultivate relationships and friendship."
Meetup.com
If online dating is not your thing, think about your interests.
One of the best websites I have found for meeting people with interests similar to mine is Meetup. It is by far the largest network of local groups.
The website states that, “Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face.
Meetup believes that people can change their personal world, or the whole world, by organizing themselves into groups that are powerful enough to make a difference."
There is no cost to join and while you are completing your profile, you can list your interests. They have meetups for virtually any and every interest you can think of and if there is not one in your area, they will be glad to help you set one up and guide you through the process.
Other Ways to Meet People
Special Interest Clubs
Often, special interest clubs meet on weekdays, and more often than not, the people who participate are retired or close to retirement. For example, if you like spending time outside and you like to walk, consider joining a local hiking club. Go to the American Hiking Organization for a list of your closest hiking organizations.
If you like to golf, check out the American Singles Golf Association. They have chapters throughout the United States and in Canada. There are plenty of singles of all ages to meet and, of course, you play golf, eat and drink, then trade tall tales on the 19 holes! They also offer golfing trips throughout the year.
Volunteering
For anyone who likes to volunteer their time to work with a non-profit, there are numerous local charities that welcome volunteers. I volunteered at a soup kitchen serving lunch and I met a wonderful “crew" of people who were all over 50!
There’s a brand new website, Singles for Service, that is literally just starting up. They intend to take the stress out of the first date situation by having singles meet in small groups in a safe environment, all while doing good in the community.
Join a Book Club
For people who love a good read we suggest joining a book club. If you have got a green thumb and you love to garden, there are several great ways to meet people. First, join a local garden club or going to your local home improvement store. They usually have gardening courses, or you can take a course in the evening at your local college.
Heading Back to School
Speaking of which, your local college is a treasure trove for meeting people! Many of the evening courses have older adults who are going back to school to learn new things like photography, painting, cooking, etc.
If you find that your city does not offer the type of group you want to participate in, start your own! You can publicize it through your local newspaper and in flyers placed in stores, like the local coffee shop.
Remember, if you want to participate in a particular activity, chances are there are loads of other people nearby who also want to do the same activity!
