Health Apps for Your Smartphones

A recent poll conducted by Mitchell Research for the National Center for TeleHealth and Technology found that over 75 percent of baby boomers have downloaded at least one mobile health app for their smartphones, and almost half have downloaded six or more.

Out of the surveyed 600 smartphone users, 57 percent of Boomers said they’re likely to download a general information medical app, 48 percent said they would download an app to monitor chronic diseases, and 47 percent would also download an app to monitor weight and exercise.

Most importantly, the survey put to rest the notion that boomers are technophobic and wouldn’t adopt mobile apps, particularly in the health sector. The reality, at least for me, is that the older I get, the more I need apps that will make my life easier!

While none of the health apps listed below are a substitute for seeing your physician, here is a list of some of my favorites (in no particular order):

This app has been a lifesaver for me in more than one situation! I use every night when I walk my dog, when I’m in a dimly lit restaurant and can hardly see the menu (I used to carry a small flashlight with me), or when I’ve lost something small in the carpet.
